In the weeks leading up the 2012 Hottest 100, Brisbane statistician Nick Drewe published a list of what he statistically believed to be the positions for the 2012 Hottest 100. Using social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, and taking advantage of the social connectivity Triple J offered with their Hottest 100 voting system, Drewe was able to see the votes that people had made in the Hottest 100 voting period. Drewe collected 35,081 votes (approximiately 2.7% of the official vote), from 3,602 voters that had posted their votes to their social media profiles, and using this, was able to create a predicted list for the upcoming Hottest 100, and posted it to a website, jokingly titled, The Warmest 100.
In the end, it was discovered that his predictions were reasonably accurate. 92 of the predicted songs made it into the list, with 8 being correctly predicted to their correct positions. The 8 songs predicted, but absent from the list, were revealed to feature in the #101-200 list. The songs that made up the top 12 were corectly guessed, with 7 of those songs being matched to their correct positions, including the top 3.
The greatest disparity between its prediction and final placing was Japandroids' 'The House That Heaven Built', which was predicted to reach #56, but actually charted 67 positions lower at #123.
