Facts for 2011's Industry List

The 2011 Hottest 100 Australian Albums of All Time was a special Hottest 100 held in July of 2011. It was the sixth Hottest 100 of All Time countdown, but the first one not dedicated to single songs. Prior to the countdown, prominent members of the Australian music community were surveyed to find out what their favourite albums were. Their results are what formed this Hottest 100 list.

The Countdown

This list is not technically a real Hottest 100 list. However, prior to the 2011 Australian Albums countdown, prominent members of the Australian music community were surveyed to find out what their favourite albums were. This list was never counted down, but was promoted on the Triple J website in such a way as to give voters ideas of what they could vote for as their own favourite albums.

The countdown featured every full-length album (at the date of the list's release) by The Avalanches, The Dissociatives, The Presets, The Sleepy Jackson and Tim Rogers with The Twin Set.

At #2, INXS' 'Kick' features a cover of the song 'The Loved One' by The Loved Ones. That song originally appeared on The Loved Ones' 1967 album 'Magic Box', which made the list at #34.

At #15, Paul Kelly And The Coloured Girls made the list with the 1986 album 'Gossip'. The album featured four re-recorded tracks from Paul Kelly's previous solo album 'Post', which featured at #65.

At #47, The Necks featured with their 1989 album 'Sex'. 'Sex' consists solely of one 56 minute long track, and as such, is the only album in the list that is made up of only one song.

At #97, Dan Kelly And The Alpha Males featured with the album 'Drowning In The Fountain Of Youth'. Dan Kelly is the nephew of Paul Kelly, who featured in the countdown as positions #15, 56 and 65.

At #99, Icehouse is featured with their self-titled 1980 album, however, on the official industry list, it is listed as being called 'Flowers'. At the time of the album's release, the band were known as Flowers and their album had been released under the title 'Icehouse'. Many people assume that since the band changed their name to Icehouse shortly after that the titles on the record were in fact reversed. Officially, the band and album are both called Icehouse, and the usage of the name Flowers, is now considered redundant.

At #100, Skyhooks featured with their album 'Living In The 70’s'. This album contains the track 'You Just Like Me 'Cos I'm Good In Bed', which was the very first song ever played on Triple J (then known as 2JJ or Double J), on September 1, 1974.

Artists Featured

Many artists featured more than once in the countdown due to their prolific musical careers. However Mick Harvey featured 12 times through work with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Birthday Party, Rowland S. Howard and The Cruel Sea. Other frequent collaborators with Nick Cave featured heavily, such as Nick Cave himself, Warren Ellis (who also featured with Dirty Three), Martyn P. Casey and Rowland S. Howard.

AC/DC featured 5 times, while Dirty Three, Daniel Johns and Tim Rogers were all involved with 4 albums. The Drones, Midnight Oil, Silverchair, You Am I, Luke Steele, Paul Kelly and Rowland S. Howard featured 3 times, while 14 other artists featured twice.
